It has been sad news to Zambia while good news to Malawi as the former have been disqualified from the 2016 COSAFA Under-17 Championships played in Mauritius as it has been revealed that they were using over-age players for the tournament.
Following that, Malawi has emerged to head Group B while Kenya are to proceed as runners-up.
Therefore, Friday’s semi-final line-up therefore sees South Africa take on Kenya (13h00 local, 09h00 GMT) and Malawi play Namibia (16h00 local; 12h00 GMT) for a place in Sunday’s final.
Malawi were supposed to play South Africa in semi final before the disqualification of Zambia.
Zambia’s disqualification follows fresh Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) tests carried out on forward Nicholas Mulilo and Benjamin Phiri in Mauritius, which found the players were over the age of 17 and therefore according to Clause 10.5 (I) of the tournament regulations are not eligible to compete in the competition.
