Though First Discount Bank (FDH) has recently fired many of its employees due to financial crisis, the bank has just signed a pre-contract partnership agreement with Football Association of Malawi (FAM) that will last for three years worth K90 million.
The signing ceremony took place at the Mpira Village at the Chiwembe Technical Centre in Blantyre.
Speaking at this ceremony of the deal, FDH Managing Director Eric Quattara said his bank is pleased to partner with FAM in bringing the game of football to Malawians.
“It is therefore undeniable that football is part of many Malawians lives. FDH is a home grown and home bread bank. We pride in our slogan which says ‘Our Bank, Our Future grow with us’. This means we want to be part of the future and growth of Malawi even in football,” said the Managing Director.
On remarks, Fam President Walter Nyamilandu appeared to be delighted with such development and described it as a rescue hand for their financial crisis as the Malawi government did not locate much to association in this year national budget.
“This is good news to Malawi football and it could not come at a better time than now. The Flames funding from government has just been reduced and we started panicking on getting funds for the team’s last Afcon match against Swaziland,” said Nyamilandu.
This means that Fam will have three partners excluding Malawi government namely Carlsberg Malawi, Airtel Malawi and FDH Bank.
