Karonga united wins big team in TNM super league for second time as they have managed to get full points on Red Lions over 2-1 victory, on Sunday at Mzuzu Stadium.
Red Lions scored the first goal through Chikoti Chirwa, who set a timed shot, 35 metres away from goal that beat goalkeeper Lloyd Munthali to make it 1-0 lead in first half.
In the second half, Karonga changed their setting, as they came back with good touches and passes that granted them to equalize through Nangaunozge Luhanga.
Two minutes to full time, Luhanga scored again through a marvelous shot 18 metre away from box, ended into the Lions’ net made it 2-1 until the last whistle.
Red Lions coach Prichard Mwansa accepted the defeat and described the other side as it was in good form.
“We played very well especially in the first half. No wonder we got a goal. Karonga United is a good side. They came back hard on us in the second half. Our marking was poor in the last 15 minutes and we got punished. We hope to do well in the second round,” said Mwansa.
While Karonga United coach, Kondwani Mwalweni praised his players for cooperation.
“I told my players that it is very possible to get one or more goals in the second half. They then worked very hard in this half and you have seen the final result,” he said.
After the game, Luhanga, was named a man of the match.
