Super League giants, Blue Eagles Football Club were reduced to amateurs as they were held to goalless draw by Mzuni in the opening match of the second round.
According to the team’s assistant coach, Wilson Chidati, believes that the absence of their three top players, Maxwell Salambula, Gilbert Chirwa and Steve Chagoma who were with the Malawi National football team attributed to this poor performance.
“But we are not sad with the draw because we know we are still the league leaders. This point we have gotten here is very important because the runners-up on the table (Silver Strikers) cannot displace us even if they win a game. So we are still safe,” Chidati said.
while Assistant coach for Mzuni, McNerbert Kadzuwa, said the draw was the result of lack of training in their camp.
“These guys have just returned from their holiday, and we trained for only a week. But we will train hard so that we maintain our first-round performance,” Kadzuwa said.
The result means Blue Eagles have 33 points followed by Silver Strikers with 29 points.
Mzuni now have 28 points and have displaced Moyale on position four from five, as the latter lost 0-1 to Azam Tigers at Kalulu Stadium.
