speaking in an interview on Tuesday, Mussa said after discussions with the Chinese Ambassador, Shi- Ting Wang, and the Chinese Football Association (AFC),  the Asian country has agreed  to send to Malawi a strong team to play the Flames.

“It will be too early for me to start discussing the arrangement to bring the team to Malawi, but meanwhile, funding has been released and we are working towards sourcing the contractor to work on the sewer and electricity systems in the stadium,” Mussa said.

Mussa added that if the contractor misses the deadline to open the stadium next month, it will likely take place early November.

BNS was officially handed over to Malawi Government a fortnight ago by Chinese contractor, Anhui Foreign Construction Company Limited.

Football Association of Malawi (Fam) General Secretary, Suzgo Nyirenda, said the ministry had not communicated officially to the association about the opening of the stadium.

“When the official communication comes to us, we will call for a meeting with the ministry and discuss the modalities to have the team in the country. We will have to get information such as the date and other arrangements,” he said.

President Peter Mutharika is expected to grace the official opening of the multi-million stadium.
