Swaziland failed in last minute to qualify to the 2017 Africa Cup of Nations as Malawi defeated them in a 2017 AFCON qualifier at Kamuzu Stadium on Sunday afternoon.

The visitors started at high note  but did not capitalize it before Gerald Phiri Jnr scored a stunning free kick following a foul on John Banda by Sanele Mkhwelu.

Come second half, the visitors were the dominant force to reckon with, forcing the Flames to retreat further and further in defence as the match wore on, but Charles Swini produced two saves in succession to frustrate Swaziland’s Technical Panel.

After the match Flames care take coach Nsazurwimo Ramadhan praised his boys for victory

“I’m happy for the boys and the nation at large. We have been looking forward to this day and what a way to finish the journey. I have strong belief in this team. I hope we can keep it for the future,” said  Ramadhan.

while Swaziland Coach Harrius Dulunga commended the Flames for the win which ended their hopes of sneaking through to the finals as best losers in the group.
