Carlsberg Malawi sponsors of the Carlsberg Cup have asked the football fans to refrain from acts of violence as such incidents usually retard the advancement of the game.
The company’s Senior Brands Manager, (Acoholic), Twikale Chirwa, declosed this on Tuesday in a response to a questionnaire on the progress of this year’s competition.
“Our view is that such incidents are detrimental to advancing the game and safeguarding the Carlsberg Cup sponsorship. Our aim with the Carlsberg Cup is to proactively seek to improve the level of football in Malawi whilst giving back to the communities in which we operate,” Chirwa explained.
“We want to complement government’s efforts in the development of football through sponsoring the Carlsberg Cup and ensure that the competition is enjoyable for football loving Malawians.”
However, Chirwa said this year’s competition has been one of the most exciting tournaments ever.
“The competition was very competitive and the desire to win by all teams this year improved performance and entertainment. It was encouraging to see mid-week matches being well patronised by football fans. This demonstrates the commercial potential that football has in Malawi,” he said.
In this year competition, Silver Strikers will meet Be Forward Wanderers in the Carlsberg Cup final on September 10, 2016 at Kamuzu Stadium in Blantyre.
