Nyasa Big Bullets goalkeeper, Vincent Gona is on a waiting list for surgery at Beit Cure International in Blantyre after enduring struggles with injury sustained  last season during a Carlsberg Cup quarterfinal against Mafco.

According to Bullets’ Acting-General Secretary, Kelvin Moyo, said the club paid for the treatment at Beit Cure.

“As we promised, we did our part and paid the money to the hospital in recognition of the outstanding service, which he offered to the team,” Moyo said.

“Vincent is now following the matter with the hospital and he might undergo an operation anytime. However, Gona himself is better placed to comment on the progress.”

Gona said he was placed on the waiting list as Dr. Nyengo Mkandawire’s schedule was fully booked.

“However, indications are that I might be operated on within the next two weeks. I am really grateful for the support which several stakeholders, including my team Bullets, have given me,” he said.

Lack of funds delayed Gona’s surgery as Bullets struggled to source K3.6 million for the medical bill.

Bullets hosted a friendly game against Be Forward Wanderers to raise funds for Gona but only raised K1.6 million.

Gona was named TNM Super League’s Goalkeeper of-the Season at the end of the 2014 season having guided Bullets to a domestic double.
