Most women in the country shun playing pool competition because it played in bar and bottle stores instead of playing in stadium and schools.
“Women preferred the tournament to be played at Blantyre Youth Centre, Colleges and not in drinking joints,” said the owner Angela Njobvuyalema of Crossroad bar which is next to Chileka Roundabout opposite Petroda filling station, adding that girls and women play in such places could regard as prostitute.
She therefore encouraged other fellow women to join the game because it is like playing volleyball, Basketball, Tennis and hockey.
She was speaking during a one day tournament she organized to promote and develop the sport.
During the tournament Big tings scooped the championship and got K100, 000 while Groove Gmelia came second and received K60, 000 and Veteran walk home with K40, 000.
Njobvuyalema also said she encourage the sport by buying pool tables and holding tournament apart from giving out various prizes.
Crossroad which is next to Chileka round about opposite Patronal filling station was opened in March this year as source of income apart from doing other business’s and farming.
Vegas Saulosi tournament coordinator and Mwai Njobvuyalema then urged other companies, organizations and individuals to emulate the good example set by Njobvuyalema.
“Despite that the game is associated by drunkenness I encourage women to join the sport, said Vegas.
