Back-to-action handicap-18 golfer Connie Muguvu-Karuku rolled in a birdie on the final hole to win the Anderson Engineering Malawi Ladies Golf Tournament on Saturday at Blantyre Sports Club (BSC).

The handicap-18 golfer had been inactive for the last three months, but she made the most of her experience to hole a long birdie putt on the 18th and takes the ultimate glory in the 62-golfer medal formatted event.

She carded net-70, four better than her runner-up Immaculate Singano (hlc 24) and seven ahead of third-placed Stella Ng’oma (hlc 16).

“I had a wonderful round of golf today. I have not been playing golf for some time and coming back on the golf course to win a title is something I am really excited about,” said Muguvu-Karuku, who also had four pars.

She said her tee shot was her best strength followed by her putting as she was in the middle of the fairway most of the times and attacked the green in regulation.

Chapusa Phiri (hlc 14) reigned in the men’s section with net 67 while John Gift Mwakhwawa (hlc 10) finished second after counting out Phillip Phambana (hlc 21) to third position on net 69.

Mwakhwawa was also among two-club winners with Mayamiko Kalizang’oma and Harold Lungu.

In other subsidiary prizes, DavlinChokazinga was nearest to the pin in men’s category while Doreen Kavala did it in the ladies section while Webster Kaunga and Diana Kambale hit the longest drive in the respective categories.

Anderson Engineering Malawi sales executive Eva Kachale, whose company deals in general engineering services such as irrigation and air-conditioning services, thanked the golfers for a good patronage and they promised more events.

“We will continue bankrolling this event as long as the company enjoys your support,” she told the golfers.
